Technical Director  | | Fred Juett The Ottawa Royals Soccer Club coaching staff is headed by our Technical Director, Fred Juett, former Ottawa Intrepid professional player. Fred is an OSA Pre-B license coach. He is the assistant coach of the Carleton University Women's team and long time coach of the Royals Women's Premier team, one of the most successful club teams in Ontario. The Women's Premier team won the Ontario Cup in 2006. Fred also coached the Men's Premier team to the Ontario Cup in 2004 and took home the silver medal in the National Club Championship. |
Club CoachesMatt Blackwell | | | Matthew brings 21 years of coaching experience along with 21 years as a high school teacher to the Royals Competitive Youth Program. Matt coached in England for 9 years before moving back to Ottawa in 1996. Since then he has been an active member of the club, serving as coach, team manager and Vice President of the Ottawa Royals. Under his 8-year direction of the Kickin' in the Capital Tournament it grew into the very popular and well run tournament it is today. Matt's coaching experience spans from the grassroots of house league to the provincial championships of high school soccer. He has taken 3 high school teams to the Ontario Championships and twice winning the Ontario School Futsal Championships. During March break 2009 he will take his high school team to Brazil for a ten-day intensive soccer camp with Cruzeidos Esport Soccer Club in Belo Horizonte. Participating in a soccer camp in Brazil is dream come true for any soccer coach. As a coach, Matt believes in developing skills and passion for the game while instilling respect, sportsmanship, fair play and a clear understanding of the basics of the 'beautiful game'. Matt holds his Ontario Pre-B coaching certification. | | Doug Cathcart  | | Doug is a long-time player and coach with Ottawa Royals. He has a deep knowledge of soccer skills and tactics, which combined with his easy-going demeanour, leads to a relationship where his players have utmost respect for his leadership and direction. His coaching duties with the Royals have seen his teams continually improve on the field, with his current U18 Boys team climbing from a single win in U14 Premier in 2005, to a team with just 1 loss at the Regional level this summer, as well as previous appearances in the ER Cup and numerous tournament Finals. | | Kyla Clark | | | Kyla has been coaching with the Royals for 3 years now and was named one of our Club Coaches in 2007. In 2008, Kyla coached the U15 Girls Regional team and has been named the Club Goalkeeper Coach and is as well the Goalkeeper Coach for Carleton University's Women's team. As a player, Kyla played with the Ottawa Fury from 1999-2004 and had a great university career at University of Texas at El Paso and Farleigh Dickinson University where she captained both teams. Kyla is the keeper for the Ottawa Royals Women's Premier team, Ontario Cup Champions in 2006. Kyla also maintains an Ontario Soccer Association Goalkeeping Diploma. | | Hernani Eleuterio  | | Hernani was born February 12, 1979 and is of Portuguese descent. He started soccer at age 5 and continued to play soccer for Sporting-Patriotes, an Italian-Portuguese club in Montreal until age 15. He went on, with Sporting-Patriotes, to play at the AAA level in the Quebec Elite Soccer League (LSEQ) when the league was formed at the start of the 1990s. Sporting-Patriotes reached the national club championships in the U15 category. At 15 he was selected for the provincial Quebec Select team, playing sweeper for 3 years. He also won the silver and bronze medals at the national select team championships with the U15 and U17 Quebec Select Teams. The team played in the Quebec games, national tournaments and local tournaments. He was selected several times for the LSEQ all-star team and was also proclaimed Defender of the Year in his age. After the age of 17, academics pretty much filled his life, but soccer was always a part of him. He graduated form Dawson College in Health Science and went on to Ottawa University in Human Kinetics. He continued to play recreational soccer until today. He is a physiotherapy consultant for the elderly in long term care for the Ottawa area. His main goal as a coach is to teach the sport that he loves to children. What he learnt from his coaches, he still carries with him today. The hard work and committment that the kids show on the pitch will also show in their everyday life. In today's soccer world the kids have the possibility to use soccer as a tool or gateway to many opportunities, such as scholarships. He plans to teach every child to harness their skills and be the best player they can be. Hernani brings to the field passion, knowledge, discipline, devotion and respect. He wants to give back to the sport that gave him so much. | | Erin Levy  | | Erin has been playing soccer since the age of 10 and took up coaching at the early age of 14 as the assistant coach for a U10 girls team. She played at the Regional level for the Nepean Hotspurs until she was U18, along with being captain of her high school team for 4 years at J.S.Woodsworth High School. Erin then headed off to Kingston where she will complete her B.A Honours degree at Queens in the spring of ‘09. She has been nursing an injury that has put her soccer career as a player on hold. She has coached girls from U10-U15 at the premier level, boys U9 level for two summers with the OSU Development Program and last summer was the assistant coach for the U14 Boys Regional Cataraqui Clippers Team in Kingston that finished second in the Regional League. She is looking forward to teacher's college in the Fall of 09 and dreams of someday coaching at the University level. Erin has her Senior Coaching level but will be taking the Pre-B license in the near future. | | Simon Morgan  | | Simon comes to us from England where he played high school and County soccer (equivalent to provincial level in Canada). After moving to Canada, Simon continued to play soccer but also spent 10 years coaching and playing field hockey at the provincial level. For more than the last 10 years Simon has played with the Ottawa Royals Soccer Club and has also coached Royals boys’ teams at all levels. Simon has proven to be an excellent development coach with the teams that he has coached over the years, most recently guiding our U10 Boys Premier to the division title and distinction as the top team in the city at that age group. | | Aydin Oyali  | | Aydin started his soccer career playing youth soccer for Rodopi Soccer Club in his native Bulgaria. By the age of 17 he was playing adult competitive soccer in Turkey. In 1992 Aydin came to Canada and played for Toronto Turkspor for 5 years winning the Metro Toronto League 3 times and was chosen the MVP twice. He played College Soccer for Centennial College. In 1998 he became the assistant coach of the team. They finished second in Ontario that year. In the late 1990s he was a player/coach for the Markham Soccer Club's top men's team. By 2000 Aydin had moved to Ottawa and continued to play at the top level. He twice won the Ontario Cup. In 2003 he won as a member of the Kanata Soccer Post team and in 2004 Aydin was a member of the Ottawa Royals MP team that won gold in Ontario and Silver at the National Championships. Over the last few years he has coached various youth teams including the Ottawa Royals U10 Boys Premier (2005), U11 Boys Premier (2006), U14 Girls Premier (2007) and in the Winter Development Program (2005). Over his career Aydin has played almost every conceivable position including keeper, however of late he has concentrated on playing midfield and defender. Aydin holds an OSA Pre-B License. | | Craig Rideout  | | Craig started playing competitive soccer at the age of 13 and by age 17 was playing at the premier men's level in Newfoundland. At 19 he was a member of the provincial men's soccer team that participated in the 1989 Canada Summer Games in Saskatoon and played with Memorial University's Men's Varsity soccer team until 1993. Following in the annual migration of Newfoundlanders to the mainland he moved to Ottawa for work in 1997 and has been a part of the Ottawa Royals ever since. Craig has played and coached with the Royals at the men's competitive level until he could limp his way into the old timers division with all the other over 35s. Craig started to focus on youth coaching in 2008, hold a current Community Coach Senior certification and will be working towards OSA's Pre-B license in the next year or two. | Roland Tiamuh  | | Roland played varsity soccer at Algonquin College where he was a Collegiate All-Star. He played for the Ottawa Wizards (2003 CPSL Champions). He won back to back Ontario Cup gold medals. In 2003 he was a member of the Kanata Soccer Post team and in 2004 he was a member of the Ottawa Royals Men's Premier team that went on to capture a Silver medal in the Canadian Championships. In 2008 he rejoined the Royals Men's Premier team after finishing the season with the Ottawa Fury PDL team. His coaching experience includes 4 years with Parmar Sports Training. Roland was the trainer/coach for the Cape Breton University Men's Varsity team who were the 2008 Atlantic University Champions. Roland has the Community Coach Senior certification. He plans on upgrading his coaching certification to the OSA's Pre-B license in 2009. | | Tyler Wallace  | | Tyler started to play soccer at the elite level at the age of 15. He was a member of the Europro Soccer Academy, Golden Gloves Goalkeeper Academy and played some of his youth soccer for the Ottawa Royals. His Royals team went on a soccer tour of England when he was 16. Tyler is an experienced keeper. He played Varsity soccer for the Carleton Ravens from 2002-2006. While at Carleton he won the Silver Medal in the CIS National Championships. He also holds a Provincial Gold Medal. While at Carleton he was selected as the OUA Player of the Week and the CIS Player of the Week. He is a two-time recipient of the Doug Banton Memorial Award for 'Putting Team Before Self". Tyler holds his Community Coach Senior certification and is the head coach of the U15 Girls Level 5 team Premier Division team for 2009. | |
