Registration for 2010Registration for the Summer 2010 House League season will commence on February 9, 2010 at Dovercourt Recreation Association. There will be an information desk set up on the main floor on Sunday, February 14 from 9am-2pm for those who wish to find out more about the program. Some age groups fill up very quickly so register early. Coaches for all levels are usually in short supply so please consider volunteering to coach. Training will be provided free of charge to anyone interested in coaching. You do not need any previous soccer experience, just a willingness to help. Teams can only be formed if enough coaches are available. Year end tournamentThe year end tournament is being held on Saturday, August 21, 2010. The U5, U6 and U7 Divisions will play at a location TBD. The U8/9 Boys and Girls Divisions will play at a location TBD. The U10/11 Boys and Girls and U12/13 Divisions will play at McKellar Park. U8/9 and above will have referees for their games. The games are 25 minutes long with no change at half. Scores will not be kept and all participants will receive a medal. Make sure to bring water and snacks for your soccer player. And of course proper soccer attire will be required. By volunteering you show your child that you are interested in making a difference to his or her soccer program and help to continue to improve the quality of the program for your community. Coaches are usually parent volunteers who have either played soccer, coached other sports or are willing to get involved and learn to coach. For those who are willing to coach, the Royals provide a practical training program and a coaching manual. High school students with soccer experience can earn credit for community service by volunteering with a team. Student wishing to apply for a volunteer position should contact the Royals. New The Ottawa Royals will be running a Community Coach - Children clinic exclusively for House League coaches on May 1 and the next level - Youth clinic on May 8. The courses are conducted by Ontario Soccer Association instructors. If you are planning on continuing to coach at higher levels, this course is for you. Ottawa Royals House League ProgramIf you would like your child to have fun this summer in a non-competitive setting, the Ottawa Royals Recreation League is for you! The league introduces young players to the game of soccer. Our objective is to: · Providing a positive, fun learning experience for young soccer players Games are organized amongst Royals teams where winning is not emphasized and official results and scores are not recorded. Coaches are expected to give all players equal playing time, regardless of skill. The season runs from late May to late August. All games and practices take place from Monday to Thursday. The league does not schedule events on statutory holidays or weekends except for our annual Year-end Tournament. This program is run in conjunction with the Dovercourt Recreation ScheduleAll teams receive one practice and one game each week. All age groups practice and play on the same evening. See the sidebar for specific game nights. The House League season starts on May 25 and runs for 13 weeks. The year end tournament will be held Saturday, August 21st, 2010. RefereesU8/U9 Divisions and older will play some of their games with referees. This will introduce them to the laws of soccer and increase their understanding and enjoyment of the game. Royals AcademyThe Royals are offering a new program which allows those players who want more training to get it. For an additional $100, Royals House League players can get one additional training session per week. The Royals are a non-profit, community-based club serving Ottawa's west end. Divisions U5 through U13 will likely use fields at the Jewish Community Centre, McKellar Park, and Nepean High School. Are there player uniforms? All registered players are issued team uniforms (jersey, shorts and socks) which become the property of the player. What equipment is needed?Players are required to provide their own soccer cleats and shin guards, which must be worn at all games and practices. Shin guards are mandatory under OSA regulations. The U5 division may use regular running shoes. After I register, how will I be contacted? Your child's assigned coach will contact you with team and schedule specifics before the last week of May. Will photographs be made available? Players will have their photographs taken with their team at the beginning of the season. Photos may be pre-paid and ordered on photo night.
