House League U12/13 joins the South Side Soccer League
NEW! - Under 14/15 girls to play in the South Side Soccer League

In its December meeting, the Ottawa Royals board accepted a proposal for U12/13 house league girls and boys and U14/15 girls players to be entered in the South Side Soccer League. This recreational league will offer more soccer for our house league players at this age group and a fun soccer experience with the opportunity to play fellow house league teams from other clubs from the City of Ottawa and the Eastern Ontario Soccer District. There will also be practice on Saturdays. Recreational level players are encouraged to attend Saturday practices for fitness and skill development, however it is not mandatory. The coaches should allocate equal game playing time regardless of the Saturday attendance.
The entry into this league will result in a fee increase for players at this age group, from $175 last year to $225 this year. Thank you to Glenn Cheney, who has agreed to be our convener for this age group.

Volunteers Needed

The program is run exclusively by volunteers. By volunteering you show your child that you are interested in making a difference to his or her soccer program and help to continue to improve the quality of the program for your community.

Coaches are usually parent volunteers who have either played soccer, coached other sports or are willing to get involved and learn to coach. For those who are willing to coach, the Royals provide a practical training program and a coaching manual.

High school students with soccer experience can earn credit for community service by volunteering with a team. Student wishing to apply for a volunteer position should contact the Royals.

New
The Ottawa Royals will be running Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) approved coaching clinics. New in 2012 are clinics that follow the Canadian Soccer Association's Long Term Player Development strategy. The courses are more focused on age appropriate training. The Royals will be holding several ctive Start clinics focusing on coaching U4-U6. The club will also be scheduling a FUNdamental clincs and a Learn to Train course. The dates will be posted when confirmed by the OSA.

For more information please contact the course organizer, Jane Dennis at registrar@ottawaroyals.com for more information.

Ottawa Royals House League Program

If you would like your child to have fun this summer in a non-competitive setting, the Ottawa Royals Recreation League is for you! The league introduces young players to the game of soccer. Our objective is to:

· Providing a positive, fun learning experience for young soccer players
· Develop the skills of co-ordination, alertness, and self-control
· Introduce the concepts of sportsmanship, team effort, and respect for others

Games are organized amongst Royals teams where winning is not emphasized and official results and scores are not recorded. Coaches are expected to give all players equal playing time, regardless of skill.

The season runs from late May to late August. All games and practices take place from Monday to Thursday. The league does not schedule events on statutory holidays or weekends except for our annual Year-end Tournament.

This program is run in conjunction with the Dovercourt Recreation

Schedule

All teams receive one practice and one game each week. All age groups practice and play on the same evening. See the sidebar for specific game nights.

The House League season starts on May 22 and runs for 13 weeks. The year end tournament will be held Saturday, August 18th, 2012.

Referees

U8/U9 Divisions and older will play their games with referees. This will introduce them to the laws of soccer and increase their understanding and enjoyment of the game.
