Royals Academy - Winter Development 2009-10

It is with great pleasure that we announce the Ottawa Royals Soccer Club Academy. This program replaces existing programs including the Winter Development Program, the Transition Program and the House League Select and Plus Program.

We are very proud to offer this exciting new program which is entirely focused on the development of our members - players and coaches. Please consider joining the Ottawa Royals Soccer Club Academy today.

Program Information

The Royals Academy-Winter Development program consists of 16 sessions which will be a mixture of training sessions (shooting, passing, dribbling, team attach, team defence, etc.) run by our Technical Director, Fred Juett, along with our top Club Coaches and game that will be arranged from within and ouside the Academy with clubs from across the city. These sessions will either be on Thursday evenings at the Louis Riel Dome, Saturyday evening at Algonquin College or Sunday mornings at the Ben Franklin Dome.

Academy Coaches

The Academy is under the technical direction of Fred Juett, the Ottawa Royals Soccer Club Technical Director. Fred is an OSA pre-B license coach, and long time coach of the Royals Men’s and Women’s Premier teams, two of the most successful club teams in Ontario. The Men’s Premier team won the Ontario Cup in 2004 and took home the silver medal in the National Club Championship. The Women’s Premier team won the Ontario Cup in 2006.

Our Academy coaches are organized and managed by an Academy Director under the auspices of the Youth Vice President (Fergus Macdonald). Ottawa Royals Club Coaches will be the primary instructors for the program. The Club Coaches are 10 of the most experienced, and highest qualified coaches in the club. This program will also involve the training of Ottawa Royals team coaches from the Royals House League as well as the Royals Competitive program.

U7 - U9 Age Group

In order to set the foundation for strong competitive teams of the future, the Ottawa Royals will be running the winter academy program for the 2001-2003 aged players. Entrance to the academy session will be by invitation for these age groups. Invitations will be offered to those players who exhibit the necessary focus and determination requuired to practice and compete at a high level. Attending the Royals Academy - Winter Development sessions will help players develop and better prepare them for trying out for one of the club's competitive teams in the future. Tryouts for competitive teams occur in the spring.

While the academy program is not a prerequisite to trying out for the 2010 U9 competitive teams, we strongly encourage all players serious about playing at a high level of soccer in the future to attend the academy sessions.

U10 and Above

For U10 and above, most players with the Academy will also be playing on one of our Competitive teams. At these ages the Academy will continue the player development with work on more advanced skills and may also include classroom sessions as well on such topics as team tactics, systems, set plays, nutrition, and fitness. This will also act as a continuing education program for team coaches to continue their coaching development.
